It's 2012!!

Happy New Year everyone.

Only a few weeks in and 2012 it's already shaping up to be a big one for us.

First off we have a bit of a big announcement; our long time friend Joel Thompson has just joined SoftLight Studios. A seriously gifted filmmaker and philanthropist, Joel Thompson started out with just his families VHS camera and a vivid imagination, and from such humble beginnings has gone on to write, produce and direct a number of award winning and critically acclaimed films. Joel's passion for telling a good story and ultimately giving back to the community is a perfect match for SoftLight and we couldn't be happier to bring him on board.

2011 was a bit of a blur, with so many projects in post it's nice to be looking at a pre-production schedule again, this time it's for our first feature length film to produced under the SoftLight banner; Buddy Hoppy, a dramedy centering on a young man's last ditch attempt to save his father's legacy, while trying not to lose what little he has left.

If you've been keeping up with us, you've probably been wondering about or first project of 2011, The Other Side of Charlie (OSC), unfortunately the news of OSC comes with a sad bit of information regarding our friend and collaborator Lex Gigeroff, who passed away on Christmas last year. The whole film community is in shock regarding the loss of such a talented and giving artist, and this is basically leaving our film(which Lex was a big part of from script to screen) in a sort of limbo while we try to figure out how to finish it, as we know he would have wanted us to. Those in the Fredericton area reading this, there will be a memorial for Lex this Saturday the 21st at the Charlotte Street Arts Center.

To end on a bit of a lighter note, our TV pilot Fred and Carl are Park Rangers is just about completed. We're doing the final touches on the edit, then our sound guys will take over and we're looking to have a completed project by mid-February to add to our pitch. So wish us luck.

That's all for now, thanks for reading.

The boys at SoftLight.
